When companies create new products or processes, one of the ways they assess their value is to create a value chain. This shows how each stage of the process adds value to the product and, ultimately, to the company.
I have taken that idea and placed it into a social context to help clarify the value of Community Networking. Here is what I mean:
From a Community Network point of view, social value is the outcome of people using electronic media to change their lives in positive ways. It could be as simple as a child making art after school in a safe, supportive place. It could be as complex as a cluster of nonprofits creating a VPN to share confidential common client information.
