3. Staff
- Explicitly note what is and is not allowed on the network in terms of content or activities.
- Regular staff meetings are important for information- and idea-sharing.
- An operations manual, or procedures manual, will give the staff working parameters. Depending on your governance structure, a parent organization might already have these procedures in place. Keep in mind that some aspects might have to be modified for your staff, and work with the parent organization to do that.
- Praise publicly, criticize privately.
- Clear expectations regarding such things as work load, work hours, time away from work and so forth, should be articulated at the beginning.
- Initially, communication between the Board and the staff should go through the director.
